Getting Started with French Language Classes through OFII

My Experience Getting Started with French Language Classes through OFII

Introduction

After moving to France, one of the important steps in integrating into French life is learning the language—and thanks to the OFII (Office Français de l’Immigration et de l’Intégration), I was given the opportunity to attend a French language class as part of my visa process.

My OFII Appointment and Language Class Assignment

Recently, I received an official appointment from OFII notifying me that I had been assigned to attend a French language class. In my case, the course is organized by CLPS in Saint-Malo. Once you receive this appointment, you need to go directly to the CLPS center to complete your registration and formalities.

Documents You Need to Bring

When visiting the CLPS center, be sure to prepare the following documents:

  1. The email from OFII confirming your appointment.
  2. The signed OFII contract indicating your agreement to attend the language classes.
  3. Your passport (with your personal details clearly visible).
  4. Your registered VLS-TS long-stay visa (make sure you’ve already validated it online).

💡 Tip: Most staff at CLPS may not speak English, as it is a French-speaking educational environment. If you're not yet confident in French, I highly recommend bringing your partner or a friend who can help interpret during the appointment.

What Happens at the CLPS Appointment?

The whole process is pretty straightforward and takes about 20 minutes:

  • You’ll sit down with a staff member who will guide you through the contract and explain the terms of the course.
  • You’ll sign the contract confirming your enrollment in the language program.
  • They will then give you your class timetable and contact details in case you have any questions later on.

And that’s it—you’re all set to begin your French language journey! 🎉

Final Thoughts

I hope sharing my experience helps others who are about to go through the same process. It's a small but important step toward settling into life in France. Bonne chance with your studies! ✨
