Heatwave Days & Cotton Candy Skies in France
Introduction
Today truly felt like the peak of summer here in France. The temperature climbed all the way to 32°C in the city where I live, and honestly, it was one of those days where the heat seemed to stay everywhere — inside the house, on the streets, and even in the evening air. By afternoon, the sun felt almost unbearable, and every little breeze felt like a gift.
Most homes in France are built to keep warmth during winter, not extreme summer heat. That is why during hot days like this, many houses can feel like giant ovens trapped under the sun. And yes… that perfectly describes my situation lately.
Still, despite the exhausting heat, the ending of the day made everything worth it.
As the sun slowly disappeared, the sky transformed into one of the most beautiful scenes I have seen in a while. Soft shades of pink spread across the horizon, blending gently with light orange and purple tones. The clouds looked exactly like giant pieces of cotton candy floating peacefully above the city. For a moment, the heat, the tiredness, and the discomfort all faded away. Everything felt calm, dreamy, and almost unreal.
It reminded me that even after the hottest and most uncomfortable days, nature still finds a way to surprise us with something beautiful.
According to the weather forecast, tomorrow, Thursday 27 May 2026, may become even hotter, possibly reaching 35°C. Thankfully, temperatures are expected to drop after that, which honestly feels like very good news right now. I think everyone here is already waiting for cooler air to arrive.
So hopefully, my “living inside an oven” situation is almost over.
Fun Fact:
Pink sunset skies often appear during very warm evenings because sunlight passes through warm air, moisture, and tiny particles in the atmosphere, creating those soft pastel colours that make clouds look like cotton candy.
Summer in France can be both exhausting and beautiful at the same time. Today was definitely one of those days that showed both sides perfectly.
